My honest answer is "do not rely on any one product".

I use Lavasoft AdAware, Spybot Search %26 Destroy and Windows Defender. They all seem to often find things that the others miss.

Oh...also, don't forget about trojan protection too...

Get 'Ad-Aware' by 'Lava soft' it is a very good free product.
My vote is Lava Soft Adaware, it is free and I have been using it for years and I am very happy with it.
