I am thinking about reformatting my computer/reinstalling Windows... Do I need to?

I accidently aquired a virus on my desktop a couple months ago. There were popups galore and a while mess of junk. I thought I had gotten rid of everything by downloading this adware remover upon other things, but recently my computer will literally take 10-15 minutes just to open a link I have clicked on. (Yes I have defragged and cleaned out all of my folders/deleted and uninstalled unused junk) I havn't had McGaffe(sp?) updated on it because I havn't had the money to spare to renew it. I got my computer as a graduation present so It's only 1 1/2 years old. (Dell XPS something or other) So, my boyfriend says I should reformat/reinstall Windows. What do you think I should do?

I'd take your bf's advice. After having a virus, its very hard to tell if you've removed all the junk 100%, and if you didn't, you open yourself up to many many security risks. If you're seeing significant problems then that's probably a sign that everything wasn't removed. Your best bet is to just format and be more careful about what you download. Also instead of worrying about Mcafee, just download Avast or AVG antivirus next time. They're both 100% free so you won't have to worry about being unsecured.
