I have two possible virus programs running at startup that I cannot disable or delete.?

I have two programs running that seem to be harming my computer. They are: ddayw.dll, %26 gahejgxb.exe (running as a service) It is VERY slow, and I keep getting popup internet ads. I have ran anitvirus programs (Norton), adware remover programs (System Spyware Interrogator, %26 Yahoo Anti-Spy), The results came back as a virus. But, even though I've tried to delete, disable, remove these, nothing has worked. I've even gone into the registry an tried to manually delete these files. They reappear as soon as you refresh the page. And now I am getting "the RPC server is unavailble" message when trying to install programs. I've gone into msconfig and disbled all startup programs, used WinPatrol, nothing has worked. Please help!?

do your scans in safe mode or download Panda Internet Security 2008 which runs online and bombs everthing WITHOUT scanning

you need to figure out the path of those files and delete them.
You probably have to call that geek squad service. It's

1-800-905-geek. Good luck.
Move the files to your desk top. Then reboot and delete them quickly while windows is coming up.This works for me most of the time.
Use this link and an expert MVP in Windows Security will ask you to download HijackThis.

Do exactly as they tell you.

I am thinking about reformatting my computer/reinstalling Windows... Do I need to?

I accidently aquired a virus on my desktop a couple months ago. There were popups galore and a while mess of junk. I thought I had gotten rid of everything by downloading this adware remover upon other things, but recently my computer will literally take 10-15 minutes just to open a link I have clicked on. (Yes I have defragged and cleaned out all of my folders/deleted and uninstalled unused junk) I havn't had McGaffe(sp?) updated on it because I havn't had the money to spare to renew it. I got my computer as a graduation present so It's only 1 1/2 years old. (Dell XPS something or other) So, my boyfriend says I should reformat/reinstall Windows. What do you think I should do?

I'd take your bf's advice. After having a virus, its very hard to tell if you've removed all the junk 100%, and if you didn't, you open yourself up to many many security risks. If you're seeing significant problems then that's probably a sign that everything wasn't removed. Your best bet is to just format and be more careful about what you download. Also instead of worrying about Mcafee, just download Avast or AVG antivirus next time. They're both 100% free so you won't have to worry about being unsecured.

Windows Doesn鈥檛 Load?

I have a toshiba laptop ,when I was running a adware remover program the computer got stuck and when i tried to restart the computer, the computer starts and goes to the windows welcome screen(windows xp) and then the computer screen goes blank (or black). i tried to start in safe mode, and in last good configuration mode, but nothing happen , the black screen appear. what can i do ? If I have to format the C: . is there any way that i can get my files from the hard drive? please help me. Plzzzz

I have the recovery CD. Windows XP for my laptop.

Windows Doesn鈥檛 Load?software

Download knoppix and burn it to a CD. This will allow you to boot from the CD, access the files on the hard-drive and transfer them off onto a USB stick or over the net.

Then reinstall Windows using the Recovery CD. I'm not sure if the Recovery CD will format the drive or simply reinstall Windows leaving the files in place which is why I recommend using Knoppix first.

2 bad
Put the XP install disk in cd drive at the instalation screen pick repair windows leave file system as it is this will re install windows but leave your files as they are on the computer except any updates you have installed

you will still need your serial number to re install
i would suggest the recovery cd, there may be a repair option like the real windows xp disk has so that would be the first place to start
try re-install windows - most computers now allow you to boot up directly from cd - so put the initial windows cd in the drive and should go auotmatically into windows setup - click repair or re-install option. if doesnt startup from the cd might have to go into your bios and change the startup to startup from cd. Doing this will ensure you dont lose any files as well and should resolve the problem
turn off your laptop and put xp disc in cd rom, switch on and press F12 key to enter boot menu, select boot from cd rom and reload xp,you will be prompted to either delete or save existing files while reloading, this will get you up and running again.you need to be quick to hit F12 key to enter reboot menu.

I agree with highbriddrummonkey..will just add that the f2 key "thing" is the way to get you into the bios whilst booting up...some computers its not the f2 key but the delete key.

From memory the boot up sequence (to make your disk drive first in the boot up sequence) can be altered in "advanced configuration" in the Bios...it shows you what keys to use to alter the sequence %26 save/exit at the base of the bios window

Problam with windows?virus protection software

I would go down the repair option route too........start the PC and watch the screen...press F2 when it prompts you to do so to enter set up.....navigate using the arrow keys till you see the part that says "boot from" and change the order so that CD ROM is first...save these setting then exit. Now put your xp disk in and shut down...watch the screen...you will see "press any key to boot from disk".. hit any key. The xp disk will examine your system then give you options, choose to repair existing copy of windows. Hope that helps
Okay if you are going to recover your files you need to somehow get a boot-up disk for Microsoft XP~ then book from it...

What are the signs a hard drive gives when it is about to crash?

My laptop is about 4 years old and I have defragmented and run Scan Disk. My hard drive light is almost always blinking as if the hard drive is working even when the computer is idle. It never used to do this before. I did a quick restore to restore the operating system and all the software that came originally with the computer hoping this would solve the problem, but it didn't. The hard drive light seems to always be on as if the hard drive is busy doing something and the computer is responding very slugishly. I have run antivirus, spyware removal, registry cleaner, adware remover etc. The problem has not gone away. Any suggestions or answers to what this problem could be due to? My computer also seemed to run a bit hot the other day (resulting in computer shutting off), even when on Chill Pad. Thank you in advance.

It's had a good life.

You've done all the correct houskeeping to reduce stress.

Try HDD Health - see link.

If you get another 6 months be grareful.

Back it up immediately and often.

When they go it's sudden death.

Good luck

Try to re-install a fresh OS ...

But make sure you backup 1st ...

Some do it every year ...
Goin'! Goin'! Gone! If you have any useful data on this drive, back it up now and get a new drive. You missed the bad block/sectors report from chkdsk. You might also want to do a memory check before installing new drive. Bad memory crashes drives.
this problem is happening if there hard drive cluster is bad .. just try to format the hard disk with 98 or DOS bootable disk and reinstall the OS .

Avoid pop ups?

I have Mcafee antivirus on my pc and also run lavasoft adware remover from time to time and have my explorer popup blocker on the highest setting but I still get hit with popups. Do you know what I can do to block them? thanks.

Avoid pop ups?spyware remover

Use one of the following tool bars

Google Tool bar

Yahoo tool Bar

Rediff Tool Bar

They will automatically block pop-ups.

Or if you use firefox browser it will automatically block the pop-ups.

Avoid pop ups?virus removal

IE-SPYAD adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once you merge this list of sites and domains into the Registry, the web sites for these companies will not be able to use cookies, ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on your PC.
firefox is the best
McAfee should have a pop-up blocker along with the antivirus, unless you don't have the full version. If not, then here's a couple things you can do:

1. Click on "Tools" in the upper left hand corner when the internet page comes up. Scroll down to pop-up blocker, and then scroll over to and click on pop-up blocker settings. At the bottom of the box that appears, it will show you the levels of protection you want from pop-ups. Click on the "High: Block all pop-ups" and then you should be all set.

How do i put a url in a host file and where do i find the host file to put it in?virus scan

I'm not clearly understand your question description. Why do you need to use url on host file. It only help if the website you are browsing is using static IP. For trojan, you need to use at least 2 anti-spyware to scan it, the same thing to virus, you might have to go to safe mode to do that. You also need to backup your data before doing any scan job. Last thing, clean up your Internet Temporary folder and Temp folder in Documents and Setting\yourusername\Local Setting. That will help a lot.
